confectioner's snow: jacket cover

ajayinthedarkAs mentioned in the notes, I've been writing this fic since the winter of 2021, and I never thought I'd actually finish it. Looking back on this story, and being able to read through and see which lines were typed in which year, which ideas were coming fresh out of quarantine, has been one of the best parts about the completed project.
Name:
My favourite kind of snow, the snow I personally find the prettiest, isn't the huge clumps that stick to the ground and pile up and cover entire swaths of land, but the soft, powdery snow that has no purpose other than looking pretty. I likened that kind of powdery snow to powdered sugar, which is also called confectioner's sugar, ergo confectioner's snow. In 2022, when Doyoung's baby butt bread pose thing started blowing up, I thought it would be fun to make him a baker too, especially because Johnny loves/is very appreciative whenever Doyoung gets food for him, and the name stuck permanently since.

JohnDo is my favourite 127 ship by leaps and miles, and I've been dying to write them something long and substantial since becoming an NCTzen. They're actually the perfect cheesy romance couple to me, because Johnny is so forward and so overtly romantic, whereas Doyoung is always more for the subtle acts of love. My favourite kind of ships are annoying guy x annoyed guy, and JohnDo is the prime example of that for 127. They care about each other so deeply, and the two of them have said on record that they're each other's reason for staying in Seoul as trainees, so I figured a fic with the primary theme of staying/finding belonging would be perfect for them.
Premise:
Since 2021, the basic concept was like this: Johnny moves in and becomes Doyoung's neighbour, Doyoung hates him, they fall in love. Almost all of the details were shuffled around in between, though. In the first draft, Doyoung is an up and coming YouTuber and that's how they become tentative friends. In the second draft, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Kun, and Ten are in a jazz band together. In the third draft, Johnny and Ten are annoying YouTuber neighbours that Doyoung has to grapple with. The fourth draft is where I finally solidified all the details. I pulled a lot of inspiration from JohnDo moments that were specific to 2022-2023, like tour interactions (Johnny hugging and spinning Doyoung :( ), the documentary series (asking each other to stay), and the "To Us" series that made me want to punch through walls.

Of course, I listened to Doyoung's "This Christmas" cover a million times, but I also had Taeyeon's entire Christmas album on loop...it's my favourite of hers :') I made a whole playlist of mellow Christmas ballads, which had lots of Laufey, d.ear, a little bit of EXO and TXT, etc. etc.
