Although I wouldn’t say I have a favourite scene from this fic, this scene definitely has my favourite dialogue in the whole fic. The nonlinear timeline of this fic was crafted by having both Chenle’s character arc and Mark’s character arc running side by side (Chenle’s in the past and Mark’s in the presence) and I think this scene is the climax of Chenle’s character arc (Mark’s climax being running away after the shower, and the whole fic’s climax being the 7-Eleven fight). By all technicalities, not a lot actually happens in this scene, but I tried to cram a lot of feelings into it, all the little details I was going to draw upon later. It’s a loaded one!

Current Music: niki - "odds"

The first draft of this scene was written on the New Year's Eve-Day of 2023-2024, and it originally wasn't going to be part of this fic at all. I had planned a completely different fic for my ChenMark fest entry (that I will not tell you about, because hopefully it gets written sometime in the future), but I was bouncing around a lot of parties that week, and that liminal-y vibe really stuck with me, and I had to type it out. This is the start, really.

Current Music: niki - "chilly"

While figuring out how to write this fic, one of the first things I told the three friends (Vee, Sunny, and Mary) about this fic was "it's gonna be kinda angsty i really want them to punch each other". This specific punch scene has been more planned out than, like, the entire fic. I must've rewritten this specific scene ten different times though. I'm really not an angst writer!
